All's
Not Lost
(Relationship Woes)
In the beginning you thought you had it all, steady
lovin' and independence too
The ability to carry on as you please, but
responsibilities you hadn't a clue
Individuals with your own thoughts and ideals, there is
nothing that you couldn't weather
Then it became time to take the plunge, differing
idiosyncracies now living together
Two completely different microcosms entwined and now
existing as one
Without really comprehending the intricacies, a
co-habitational relationship's begun
She goes out with the girls and he goes out with the
boys, this thing is not too bad
We really seem to be compatible, the best either has
ever had
Through thick and thin you're five years in and you've
produced two more of your kind
And the baggage that should have been left behind, now
co-exists in the back of your mind
Two kids, two cars and a mortgage, all this started with
a loving kiss
This is not all that it is cracked-up to be, for the
bliss has gone amiss
The things you used to do together, things that you
thought were so sublime
Have kind of been put to the wayside, “my significant
other” seemingly has no time
And you ask yourself, “was it love” or was it lust
and infatuation?
'Cause there's so many days of unhappiness, dissatisfied
mindfulness filled with deliberation
Cognizant of those beautiful times, the times when you
anticpated each other's touch
And the torrid bouts of making love, rapture and
ecstacy, that really is missed so much
What once was a-yearning and two hearts were a-burning,
both of them beating as one
You wonder what's changed are thoughts re-arranged,
something has to be done
It went from hot to tepid, to cold, there was respect,
but really no communication
Something that once seemed so strong, is now a situation
So hard to construe and not knowing what to do, for
there is no collaboration
But, we both still care and do we dare, do we go for a
separation?
The problem is it takes a more than love, so much more
than just the planting of seeds
For understanding, respect and communication is
paramount, it is what a relationship needs
Some people were just not meant for each other, but who
knew when the relationship started
Unfortunately many find out too late and become, a
club-member of the broken-hearted
What you can do is see it through, open your mind and
keep, an open heart
With understanding, caring and respect you'll realize,
the commencement of a brand-new start
You'll just have to re-kindle the fire and never let
that flame abate
And never exhaust for “all is not lost”, you must
love and communicate
Always keep an open heart I agree, Enjoyed your poetry this evening Robert,
